The Luxembourg Agency for Research Integrity (LARI) is the national research integrity office of Luxembourg. We support our member organizations in fostering a research environment conducive to responsible research practices and in independently investigating cases of alleged research misconduct. Key values underpinning our work are the principles enshrined in the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity: reliability, honesty, respect, and accountability.
We are a proud member of the European Network of Research Integrity Offices (ENRIO), the European Network for Academic Integrity (ENAI), and the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA).
LARI was founded in 2016 and is a membership-based non-profit organization. Our member organizations are:
LARI supports good research practice and responsible conduct of research through a variety of means. Especially training and education as well as advice and guidance are cornerstones of our activities to foster a culture of research integrity in the public research system of Luxembourg. All services LARI offers are free of charge for researchers, students, and other personnel affiliated with our member organizations. More information on how LARI promotes and safeguards research integrity can be found in the section on prevention.
LARI maintains an independent committee – the Commission for Research Integrity (CRI) – to investigate cases of alleged research misconduct at LARI member organizations or related to other research funded by the FNR. The CRI is comprised of renowned international research integrity experts to ensure the independence, impartiality, and unbiasedness of investigations. How the CRI operates is specified in the Rules of Procedure for the National Commission for Research Integrity. More information on how investigations are carried out and how an allegation can be made is available in the section on investigations.
LARI, both through its secretariat and the Commission for Research Integrity, supports LARI member organizations in developing and strengthening policies, governance schemes, and internal procedures to reinforce research integrity and enhance the capacity of researchers to conduct research responsibly. Support activities can take various forms, such as providing feedback on new or revised drafts of institutional policies and guidelines, proposals for revising or extending existing regulations, or mutual learning encounters to discuss recent developments in research integrity or research governance more broadly.
The secretariat is responsible for managing all day-to-day activities of LARI and implementing the agency’s mission in accordance with the statute and as defined in agreements with the Board of Directors and the General Assembly. The secretariat is headed by the Secretary-General, who is also the chief executive of LARI.
The Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing and, within the confines defined in the statute and by the General Assembly, steering strategic decisions of LARI. The Board of Directors is also responsible for proposing budgets to the General Assembly and ensuring compliance with budgetary agreements and legal obligations.
